In 1997, I was a young mother at home raising a daughter. I wanted nothing more than a show to watch with a strong female lead. As a TV junkie, not much was like that on TV at the time. Then Buffy came into my life and I never missed an episode. Granted the first season was campy I loved it.
Somewhere in the midst of this show it gave me things I so needed. Buffy offered me hope in world full of big bads. I had to face those issues with what would Buffy do? I listened and chose to fight. I did what I felt was right to do and slayed the issues that were deeply personal.
Buffy is pure empowerment in the crazy version of Sunnydale we live in. She defines strength and pure humanity to me. We all face demons some real some not just like Buffy did. But the question is do you have the potential to stand up and fight for what you believe in?
I decided back in August of 2003 to use my insane passion for Buffy to create a good event helping those who can’t. I created Slay-A-Thon and never looked back. We could as a collective of fans of Buffy, Angel and Pop Culture make a difference in children’s lives by gathering donations and hosting this event. We have touched over 40 children and giving them a break that they needed to survive and be a force for good in this world.
The hardest thing in the world is to live in it. Be Brave. LIVE!
