Alexandra

Alexandra is described by her mother as an edgy 18-year-old girl. She lives in Wilmette, Illinois with her parents. Alexandra takes an active role in stage crew at her high school and has taken on the responsibility of technical director for school plays. Alexandra is a big fan of video games and she also likes watching reruns of her TV favorite shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse.

In October of 2009, Alexandra was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer that causes the body’s lymph-node cells to multiply at an abnormal rate. This ultimately affects how the body’s organs function. In November 2010, Alexandra received a stem cell transplant and now receives ongoing chemotherapy treatments.

When Alexandra was asked to wish BIG, she asked to meet Joss Whedon, the director of her favorite show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Thanks to your generous support and the efforts of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Illinois, Alexandra’s wish was granted! Alexandra and her family were whisked away in a limousine to the airport. Arriving in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Alexandra was greeted at the airport and escorted to the Hyatt Place Uptown Hotel. She shared her special birthday dinner with her family at the Artichoke Café. A spa day at nearby Betty’s Bath and Day Spa was also booked complete with a facial and spa bath soak. The highlight of Alexandra’s trip was her wish day. She was met in the hotel by a celebrity escort, who took her to meet her favorite director, Joss Whedon. Alexandra spent most of the day one-on-one with Whedon, asked him every question she had, and talking about his experience with scenic design – something Alexandra would like to move into as a career. What an eventful afternoon it was! Thank you for helping to make Alexandra’s wish come true!
